I concur. It's very important.. I use Liquid Metal, it's tricky to properly apply, and rather impossible to fully remove (if you spill any into your socket or onto the pins, have fun cleaning it up), but it really works wonders!I have extra fine diamond dust abrasive pads I use for roughening the chips, then clean them with what I think is acetone (standard CPU heatsink cleaning kit).
